The Best of: Barbara ‘Barb’ Holland

An easy step-by-step guide on why she didn’t deserve her fate.  ( requested by anon )

I totally agree that Barb didn’t deserve her fate, and also that the writers blew off the character by giving her story essentially no emotional weight whatsoever. And that was totally unfortunate, because I enjoyed her character a lot and I wish it would have been handled better.

But, on the other hand, I think it was a really interesting choice to subvert the commonly used horror trope that the “bad girl” dies first and the “good girl” lives. Nancy made all the choices that would have gotten her character killed if this show was actually made in the decade in which it is set, while Barb did everything that a “nice girl” should do by society’s standards. The character’s assumed moral superiority didn’t matter at all. And, honestly, it was a little refreshing to see that.
